Statue - 'Spectre de la Rose'The wonderfully evocative life size bronze sculpture of John Gilpin as 'Spectre de la Rose', inspired by Nijinsky, is one of the major works of art by Tom Merrifield. 'Spectre de la Rose' is on permanent loan from the artist Tom Merrifield and his wife Blackie. It was unveiled on 30 April 1999 Tom Merrifield, the leading Australian ballet dancer, turned sculptor, has never had an art lesson in his Iife .He came to Britain and began to sketch his fellow dancers during lengthy rehearsal sessions. With his instinctive grasp of dancers' bodies and movement, it was not long before he became noticed. Tom's natural gift and love of dance has come through in this notable work of art . |
