Romeo and Juliet
In many ways Shakespeare's timeless tale of 'star-crossed lovers' is a study of loss of innocence set in an era when a young girl of marriageable age, was expected to conform with her father's wishes. During the course of the play we see how love transforms an inexperienced, obedient girl into a spirited, vibrant young woman.
Traffic of the Stage's period production will show the colour and vitality of youth with its joyous intensity and passionate impulses. A controlling older generation undervalue the potency of youthful love and desire, and in seeking to control their children's lives, they propel them into clandestine rebellion which has devastating consequences for all concerned.
