On 18th October, the Epsom Symphony Orchestra presents a programme of drama and emotion from the Romantic Era. After a rousing opener of Schumann’s iconic Manfred Overture, the orchestra is joined by the extraordinarily gifted 13 year old prodigy, and winner of the 2025 Croydon Concerto Competition, Mikhail Andreev for his rendition of Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto. Described by Classic FM as a ‘Warhorse’, this work is “one of the most important for the instrument in the history of Romantic music, and one that is implicitly linked with Tchaikovsky’s emotional turmoil.” These themes continue into the evening, with a performance of Dvorak’s Seventh symphony. With evident themes of his home Country, London and Glasgow, some consider this to be Dvorak’s greatest symphony; so this concert of autumnal classics really isn’t one to miss.
